Plus Addressing With Burnett GMail: Yourname +

Burnett Gmail allows for + Addressing. This means you can instantly create an unlimited number of "disposable" e-mail addresses associated with your account.

Here is how it works. Lets say you want to subscribe to the NAR e-newsletter. You can enter your email address like this:

bwentz+newsletters@burnettreal... (I left the "ty.net" off so I don't get spammed!)

Then you can set up a filter from within Gmail to send everything that arrives to that e-mail to a label called Newsletters automatically. When you want to read them, just click the label. And if you ever decide that address had been some to spammers, you can change the filter to delete anything that comes to that address automatically. All while protecting your standard user@burnettrealty net account!

This could also be used to send yourself notes that you want to remember. Create a filter to send user+notes@burnett... to automatically save to a "Notes" label. Then just email yourself and your notes will be automatically stored. If you are in the Gmail interface, you can even just type "notes" in the To: address and it will automatically send it to "user+notes@burnett... ". Pretty cool, eh?

Understanding Gmails new Features for Burnett Email

Gmail organizes your e-mails differently than what you might expect, here are a few of the ways it differs.

Gmail is designed so you never need to delete an email, except for Spam. That way you always have a copy of past communication. (If needed, you can permanently delete anything easily.) Gmail stores copies of all mail activity (sent mail, received mail, replies, labeled mail, even mail marked for the trash) in one continuous stream in the "All Mail" folder.

If you use outlook to read your e-mail, you are likely accustomed to "folders". Gmail uses labels instead of folders, giving the ability to give one single email multiple labels, (where you could not have one email in multiple folders in outlook). Instead of having a folder for "Auto-Prospectors", you can have one for "Auto-Prospectors" and one for "Billy Smith", a client. If you need all your Auto Prospectors from the last week, you can find them. But if you want Billy's Auto Prospectors, you can find those also.

Gmail also stores emails with the same Subject line in what it calls "Conversations". These emails appear with a "(X)" after the e-mail showing the number of e-mails that have been groped together. This is especially important to remember when using the MLXchange Auto-prospector function. If your client has multiple searches set up, you'll want to look closely at the e-mails to ensure yo don't miss any important listings by using the "Expand All" button.

Finally, the Archive button will move emails you have read, and are finished with, from your "Inbox" to the "All Mail" folder. Think about the Archive button as if it is there to move your read mail to a "Read Mail" folder. This allows you to keep your inbox nice and clean!
